Though arguably without sentience, the flora of Crescent Valley’s botanical gardens cowered under Curs’tac’s unholy presence. No daffodil was safe, and the lilacs shivered; even the blades of grass curled before he’d the chance to squash them. Unlike the human park-goers they were unable to run, nor were they able to scream.
The monster cackled, savoring the terror in the air. Lord Nihilex may have been less than enthused by his arrival, humanity’s welcome more than made up for it. He snapped his pincers in delight, threatening to bisect all who stood in his way.
“This is too easy,” he laughed. “How did this pathetic dimension manage to resist us for so long?”
“You want a demonstration?”
They appeared as if from nowhere; five costumed heroes, each wearing the color of their sigil and garbed with a red cape over their shoulders. Falling behind the avatar of the bat was the wolf, beetle, spider and mountain lion; they were night’s defenders, and guardians of the innocent.
“Fang Force,” Curs’tac hissed. The monster lunged, and the group darted away from his snapping limb. Continue reading “Fang Force #26 – “Shell Shock: The Indestructible Foe” (Part 2)”
Lord Nihilex stared at the wall opposing his throne. Its blackness seethed and drank the wind through the passageways. Its thirst was eternal; such was the nature of the Abyssal Realm – desperate for substance, all consuming; so desperate that it churned creatures from nothingness to act on its accord.
The void was known by all. Those with young imaginations often stared into it when the light left them. What monstrous conjurings they projected onto that canvas took form at the portal gates, the shape of which he could never predict. So far, however, all had failed to serve their purpose.
Both he and the Abyss stared without eyes, daring the other to blink. How deep did the darkness run inside the shadow conqueror’s chest? Deeper, he thought, than the farthest corners of the realm. He growled, casting his thoughts further, until…
His goblet clunked against the stone, staining it with drink. Feareus and Vultera stumbled to retrieve the cup, bickering over which of them would hold it and fill it.
“What a pathetic display,” Lord Nihilex sneered. Continue reading “Fang Force #25 – “Shell Shock: The Indestructible Foe” (Part 1)”
It was only that morning that three criminal adepts sat in three prison cells in three different parts of the country. Not even they could believe in the dark magics that brought them back into the world, thus reuniting the Society of Sin.
Mr. Fahrenheit, Punching Judy and the Carbon Man advanced toward the castle which, by their reckoning, had no business existing outside of medieval England. It appeared ominous, and only became more so with the dust and wind the Carbon Man blew against it. A dark presence loomed there, which set the hairs on edge.
Punching Judy smashed her fists together. “You ready to knock some doors down?”
“I’d rather smoke them out,” said Mr. Fahrenheit. He summoned pillars of fire to leap from his palms.
“Looks like the fight’s coming to you,” said another.
A trio with blazing red capes emerged from the treeline. Each wore a uniform of a different color; yellow, pink, and green. With pride and purpose they marched toward the villains, never once wavering. Continue reading “Glimmer Girl + Fang Force – Shine Eternal (Part 6)”
A little background of Dr. Vortex, the closest thing I ever had to an arch enemy. I wouldn’t be Glimmer Girl if not for him, and I don’t mean it as a compliment. Through him my life was turned upside down, and me with it; robbed of autonomy, ripped apart by his technology, and left with a whopping case of PTSD I can’t talk about, except to my one friend.
I thanked the gods he was dead; so what was he doing in this accursed Abyssal Realm? Every inch of my body screamed to flee, but I knew that was impossible. There was no running from a man who could be everywhere at once.
Lindsay charged the enemy, and flipped her vampire-phone open.
“Soul awaken! Red Fang!”
She transformed – red vest, cape, and helmet like a bat – and sprinted at the ‘Great Vortex King’, undeterred by the growing number of steps materializing beneath her feet. The hero leaped into the air and came down, slashing with both hands, only to blip out of existence and reappear at my side. Continue reading “Glimmer Girl + Fang Force – Shine Eternal (Part 5)”
As time drew further, so did the depths of Lord Nihilex’s power. The abstract doorway to the Abyssal Realm grew as well, and doing so gave ‘Wiseman’ substantial energies to work with. For eons he’d but morsels to work with, but that had changed. Though he’d yet to reach his peak, he was still able to push the boundaries of what they’d accomplished this far.
Fingers the age of dust raked the aura of the crystal ball, shifting the flow from the orange spectrum and into a poisonous, algae-tinged green. With words older than words he commanded those powers outward, and to the target set in the eye of the prism.
The glassy vision presented the image of Chorack crawling from the bushes and brushing the dirt from his shell. He did not expect to be the subject of Wiseman’s machinations, nor did he understand the supernatural force pouring through his body. His hands inflated and his thoax bloated.
“I don’t feel so good,” he clicked.
Wiseman continued his conjurings, pulling dark mass from the Abyssal Realm, and channeling it into the monster’s body. He watched through the eye as the creature quantified; his stance widened, and his height shot in line with the treetops.
“W-what’s happening to me!” Continue reading “Fang Force #23 – “All Hail: The Fang Empress Realized” (Part 5)”
It was Lindsay’s worst nightmare realized. She feared, not for herself, but for those in her group; innocent tourists seeking a harmless fright, not a real one! Her life with Fang Force crossing into theirs was something she would never forgive the monster for.
Chorack stalked the tour group like a wolf does a flock, herding them to a corner. Their fear was palpable, like the air waiting to be devoured. How vulnerable they were, just waiting to be picked off.
“Which one of you will scream the loudest?” he said. His options were myriad. Would it be the little old woman, or the nerdy one with glasses? The short one with the curly hair seemed a good choice, and was shivering in her heels.
Lindsay roared and tackled the giant cockroach. She did so with animal force, roaring like something from the wilds. A collective gasp escaped the group when she lifted a sword high; a sword lifted from a nearby coat of arms decorating the wall.
“You don’t get to harm these people,” she seethed. “This is my tour group, and they are under my protection!” Continue reading “Fang Force #22 – “All Hail: The Fang Empress Realized” (Part 4)”
“Fang Force is at full strength,” Lord Nihilex lamented. “Even without the Great Vampire King, they are five united, and with their unstoppable familiar combat machines at the ready!”
His voice more than echoed in the dark; it was an extension of it, so that every word drilled into the ears of those who dwelled there. Not least of all was Fantom, his warrior step-son with a mask covering half his absent face.
“We’ve been cocky,” the younger monster mused. “It isn’t enough to simply throw our weight around, hoping for the best. Defeating Fang Force will require all our cunning.”
“Who asked you?” the shadow conqueror roared, and unleashed a wave of dark energy to plunge deep into his chest.
Such attacks were becoming customary, and left Fantom writhing. Some days he wondered why he spoke at all; but then he realised that to be silent was to give himself completely to his step-father’s wishes. His mother, Queen Lacuna, would have long age interjected were she awake to see such a display. Continue reading “Fang Force #19 – “All Hail: The Fang Empress Realized” (Part 1)”
Sitting at the side of Queen Lacuna, Lord Nihilex hadn’t looked away from her sleeping form since his children left. Had he expected too much of them? Perhaps, but what other choice did he have? He couldn’t allow Fantom to live after what he’d done, bringing the scion in without killing her. He thought his children could manage, but cursed himself at Fearus sobbed like a whimpering human.
Hours passed with his thoughts lingering between that of the children and the queen. Eventually something that would normally never be allowed happened; a freakling opened the door to the chamber. It was met with destruction so fast that it may not have noticed before falling into dust.
“You may enter, Wiseman,” Nihilex growled, “but keep quiet. Should you disturb her rest you will meet the same fate as the messenger.” Continue reading “Fang Force #18.5 – “A Bold New Direction” (April Fools!)”
Fantom hobbled through the passages, a shell of his former self. What a fool he’d been. Had he not been so prideful, he’d have known to assuage his step-father’s anger. Instead he provoked the beast, and in doing so accepted a wealth of pain that left him debilitated. Such was the cost of his hubris, to which he could blame nobody else.
It would be some time before he healed enough to face Fang Force again on equal terms; if, by that time, there was still a Fang Force to battle.
He limped into an antechamber, where laid across a pair of long beds were the two vampires staring at an hourglass. The grains sifted through the funnel at a snail’s pace. Neither paid any mind to the stranger as he entered the room.
“You should have ended them when you had the chance,” Fantom said. Continue reading “Fang Force #16 – “Bitter Return: A Fang Force Divided” (Part 4)”
It wasn’t until she’d rested that Lindsay felt the full sting of her experience. She whined as Spike wrapped tape around her ribs with a skill greater than a small creature should possess, while the other two cried for her from the other side of the modesty screen.
“It’s Lindsay,” she said. “Lindsay!”
Of course she could command them to use her name – the power of the Great Vampire King compelled them to her commands – but that didn’t seem right. Better they get in the habit themselves, she thought. Having leadership thrust on her was hard enough; being a ‘Master’ was next level.
